{"id":108,"date":"2022-10-04T23:03:47","date_gmt":"2022-10-04T23:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/curric.theheights.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=108"},"modified":"2023-08-07T09:15:06","modified_gmt":"2023-08-06T23:45:06","slug":"year-9-design-and-technologies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/curric.theheights.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=108","title":{"rendered":"Year 9 &#8211; Design and Technologies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Engineering and Drafting (CAD)<br>Electronic Engineering<br>Metal Technology<br>Wood Technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Length:<\/strong> All four Year 9 subjects in Technologies are 1 Semester each<br><strong>Contact:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/curric.theheights.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=500\">Technologies Leader<\/a><br><br><strong>Course Description<\/strong><br><br>Design &amp; Technologies are divided into 2 main subject areas:<br><br><strong>Engineering Principles and Systems<\/strong><br>\u2022 Engineering and Drafting (CAD) (1 Semester)<br>\u2022 Electronic Engineering (1 Semester).<br><br>In this course students investigate and make judgments on how the characteristics and properties of materials are combined with force, motion and energy to create engineered solutions.<br><br><strong>Material Specialisations<\/strong><br>\u2022 Metalwork (1 Semester)<br>\u2022 Woodwork (1 Semester)<br><br>In this course students focus on how the characteristics and properties of materials, systems, components, tools and equipment can be combined to create their design project.<br><br>In all 4 of these technologies subjects, students use the design process (Investigating, Planning, Producing and Evaluating) to develop solutions to a design challenge or problem. Students learn and develop safe, workshop skills and work both individually and collaboratively to develop design solutions. They will learn to select and use appropriate technologies, communicate graphically, document plans, and manage sequenced workshop processes.
