The subject&nbsp;provides&nbsp;the opportunity to consider such challenges through an understanding of civic participation, power,&nbsp;influence&nbsp;and authority. Students will also consider the nature their role in contributing to democracy, with an investigation of the strengths and weaknesses of Australia\u2019s electoral system.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Students&nbsp;will study&nbsp;1 core topic and one of the&nbsp;additional&nbsp;options:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Core topic<\/strong>: Understanding how politics works&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Additional Topics:<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Religion and politics: allies or foes\u00a0<br>Australian media: entertainer or informer\u00a0<br>Breaking barriers for women in politics: the struggle for visibility and voice\u00a0<br>Migration and membership: the politics of its meaning\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<br><strong>Assessment<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>Students\u2019 performance will be&nbsp;determined&nbsp;according to the subject\u2019s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board.
