Course Description<\/strong> 
In Philosophy, students explore how philosophical thinking shapes values, perceptions of truth, and ways of engaging with the world. Philosophy is a rational investigation into questions of existence, knowledge, and ethics, often provoking diverse viewpoints and debate. Through learning critical reasoning and argument analysis, students develop intellectual integrity, build their skills in philosophical argument, and become creative, independent thinkers able to articulate and justify their positions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students will study one or more of the three key areas listed below:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Area 1: Ethics\u00a0\u2014\u00a0a\u00a0study\u00a0of\u00a0moral\u00a0values,\u00a0reasoning\u00a0about\u00a0what\u00a0is\u00a0right\u00a0and\u00a0wrong\u00a0
Key Area 2: Epistemology\u00a0\u2014\u00a0a\u00a0study\u00a0of\u00a0theories\u00a0of\u00a0knowledge\u00a0and\u00a0knowing\u00a0
Key Area 3: Metaphysics\u00a0\u2014\u00a0a\u00a0study\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0nature\u00a0of\u00a0existence\u00a0and\u00a0reality\u00a0(what\u00a0there\u00a0is\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0world).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the subject\u2019s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A+ to E- will be used for reporting purposes.\u00a0
