{"id":198,"date":"2022-10-05T01:41:34","date_gmt":"2022-10-05T01:41:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/curric.theheights.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=198"},"modified":"2026-07-22T11:35:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T02:05:13","slug":"year-10-metal-technology","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/curric.theheights.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=198","title":{"rendered":"Year 10 &#8211; Metal Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Length:<\/strong>\u00a0Single Semester<br><strong>Contact:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/curric.theheights.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=500\">Technologies Leader<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Recommended Background<\/strong><br>No prerequisites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Course Description<br><\/strong>In this course students will learn skills and gain knowledge in the area of Metal Fabrication and Machining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through a series of set projects students will learn:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To use metal lathes for processes such as drilling, parallel turning, taper turning and facing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To use Oxy Acetylene welding equipment for Braze and Fusion welding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The basics of electric welding using the GMA (MIG) process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To use a variety of hand tools to fit and assemble components of the projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students will learn to follow the design process to develop a solution to a given problem. A work plan and drawings are produced prior to manufacture. The final product is evaluated against the given design brief and possible modifications discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the end of Year 10, students will be able to create a design solution based on a student design brief \/ challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> Students may be required to co-contribute towards the purchase of project materials, dependent on their personal design and choice of materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Assessment<\/strong><br>Assessment types include a sequence of practical Skills Tasks, written research Tasks, and a Major Design Project that is documented through a multimodal Design Folio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Student achievement is assessed according to the Design &amp; Technology Achievement Standards outlined in the Australian Curriculum, with A-E Grades used for reporting.<br><br><strong>Leads To<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/curric.theheights.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=309\">Stage 1 Metal Technology<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Length:\u00a0Single SemesterContact:\u00a0Technologies Leader Recommended BackgroundNo prerequisites.
