It is an algebra-rich subject for students preparing for university-level studies of economics, engineering, computer sciences, and the sciences. It prepares students for courses and careers that may involve the use of statistics, such as health or social sciences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stage 1 Mathematical Methods consists of the following topics:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Polynomials&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Functions and graphs&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Geometry&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Growth and decay&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Matrices&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Counting and statistics&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Introduction to differential calculus&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trigonometry&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Further&nbsp;trigonometry&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Subject Requirement<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>A SACE approved graphics calculator is&nbsp;required&nbsp;for this course.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/curric.theheights.sa.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Year-7-12-Calculator-Requirements-Updated.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Years 7-12 Calculator Requirements<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Assessment<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>Students must achieve a C grade or higher to achieve their compulsory SACE numeracy requirement.
