Year 7 – English

Length: Full Year

Course Description

Year 7 English will be delivered using the Australian Curriculum and build on skills and understandings from Year 6. Students will begin to develop more complex knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating. Learning in English is cumulative and builds on concepts, skills and processes developed in earlier years, with teachers continuing to revisit and strengthen these as needed.

Students will analyse, interpret, evaluate, discuss, create and perform a wide range of texts. Students interact with others and listen to and create spoken and/or multimodal texts including literary texts. With different purposes and for audiences, students discuss, express and expand ideas with evidence. Furthermore, students identify how text structures, language features including literary devices and visual features shape meaning. Students read, view and comprehend texts created to inform, influence and/or engage audiences.

In year 7 English, students create a range of texts whose purpose may be aesthetic, imaginative, reflective, informative, persuasive, analytical and/or critical. These may include narratives, posters, arguments, transformations of texts and multimodal presentations for a range of audiences.

Assessment

Year 7 Students are assessed according to the English Achievement Standards outlined in the Australian Curriculum, with A-E Grades used for reporting. This includes assessment of achievement in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating
