Course Description
In Politics, Power and People, students will explore and debate the evolving political world, both in Australia and internationally, with a focus on the use of politics to solve local and global challenges. The subject provides the opportunity to consider such challenges through an understanding of civic participation, power, influence and authority. Students will also consider the nature their role in contributing to democracy, with an investigation of the strengths and weaknesses of Australia’s electoral system.
Students will study 1 core topic and one of the additional options:
Core topic: Understanding how politics works
Additional Topics:
Religion and politics: allies or foes
Australian media: entertainer or informer
Breaking barriers for women in politics: the struggle for visibility and voice
Migration and membership: the politics of its meaning
Assessment
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A+ to E- will be used for reporting purposes.

- Folio (2 tasks, which may include a debate, roleplay or commentary)

- Investigation.
