This course is designed to allow students with limited mathematical skills to achieve the compulsory numeracy requirements of SACE.
Course Description
Stage 1 Essential Mathematics is designed for students who are seeking to meet the SACE numeracy requirement; or students who are planning to pursue a trades or vocational pathway. There is an emphasis on extending students’ mathematical skills in ways that apply to practical problem solving in everyday and workplace contexts, in flexible and resourceful ways.
Stage 1 Essential Mathematics consists of the following topics:
Semester 1 Course: Calculations, time, and ratio, Earning and spending, Measurement
Full Year Course: Calculations, time, and ratio, Earning and spending, Measurement, Data in context, Geometry, Investing
Subject Requirement
All students must purchase a Scientific Calculator to support their engagement with this course.
Years 7-12 Calculator Requirements
Assessment
Students must achieve a C grade or higher to achieve their compulsory SACE numeracy requirement. Students will complete three structured assessment tasks and one folio per semester.
