Course Description 
In Women’s Studies, students critically examine the world through women’s perspectives, exploring the diversity of women’s experiences, gender identity, and representation in cultural contexts. They analyse the complex and often contradictory ideas surrounding femininity and masculinity, and consider how gender influences individuals and societal expectations. Using an interdisciplinary approach, students have a chance to work with key industry partners. In 2026, this included the chance to work with She Shapes History to bring to the forefront the stories of significant women in South Australia’s history. 

Students study 2 topics over 4 assignments.  

Topic 1: Representations of Women in Cultural Texts  

Topic 2: One of the following: 

• Women’s Achievements, Struggles, and Empowerment  
• Women, Culture, and Society  
• Women and the Law 
• Health and well-being 
• Women and work  
• Negotiated Topic   

 
Assessment 
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A-E will be used for reporting purposes.

• Assessment Type 1: Text Analysis  
• Assessment Type 2: Group Presentation  
• Assessment Type 3: Issues Analysis.
