Course Description
In Stage 2 Physical Education, students learn ‘in, through and about’ Physical Activity. Students explore the participation in and performance of human physical activities. It is an experiential subject in which students explore their physical capacities and investigate the factors that influence and improve participation and performance outcomes, which lead to greater movement confidence and competence. Stage 2 Physical Education engages student’s participation in a series of practical activities, some of which are teacher directed and others require independent skill learning.

Throughout all activities, students are required to establish links and complete written work regarding key concepts of:

  • Biomechanics
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Skill Acquisition
  • Sports Psychology.

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A+ to E- will be used for reporting purposes.

School-based Assessment:

  • Diagnostics (30%)

    • 1x 1000 word task comparing, analysing and evaluating different Aerobic Fitness Tests and their appropriateness for different team sports (i.e. Netball, Ultimate Frisbee, Floor Hockey)

    • 1x 2000 word task analysing Physiological Demands (Energy Systems)/Barriers and Enablers in Team Handball

  • Improvement Analysis (40%)

    • 1x 4000 word Self-Improvement Portfolio, as students undertake an analysis task on their own improvement within a chosen focus area (skill/technical/physical development)

External Assessment:

  • Group Dynamics (30%)
    • 1x 2000 word task analysing their specific contribution to a team through a sports competition
