Course Description
Year 8 Technologies engages students in a rotation of Wood Technology, Food Technology, and Engineering & Drafting, providing opportunities to apply design thinking and technical skills across a range of contexts.

In Wood Technology, students investigate sustainable living practices and design solutions that encourage positive habits and responsible resource use. They develop practical skills through the safe use of hand tools and machinery while producing timber-based projects.

In Food Technology, students explore hygiene, food sustainability and seasonal produce. They develop a range of technical food preparation skills and apply the design process to create and evaluate dishes that meet specific needs and preferences.

In Engineering & Drafting, students develop engineering design and problem-solving skills through modelling, prototyping and 3D printing. They learn to communicate ideas using technical drawings and digital technologies while creating innovative solutions to design challenges.

Assessment
Assessment types include a sequence of practical Skills Tasks, and a Major Design Project that is documented through a Design Folio.

Student achievement is assessed according to the Design & Technology Achievement Standards outlined in the Australian Curriculum, with A-E Grades used for reporting.
